The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has praised Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Umelo Chinazaekpere Favour, for her donation of twenty double-seater desks, sanitation infrastructure, and the renovation of Waru Palace to Waru Junior Secondary School Apo, as part of her NYSC Community Development Service (CDS). The IHRC highlighted that Favour’s projects aim to address global concerns for education and community development.

During the project commissioning at Waru Junior Secondary Apo Abuja, the Ambassador at Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission IHRC Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, commended Favour for her grassroots impact, emphasizing that any project without such an impact is insufficient for society.

Hezekiah also noted that the toilet facility built by Favour provides girls with separate toilets and handwashing facilities, which helps give girls privacy and encourage them to go to school and remain in the school system. He highlighted that the lack of proper toilets in schools is a global issue that threatens the education of millions of children, especially girls, who may miss school due to poor hygiene or drop out completely.

The IHRC ambassador further urged the school management to take responsibility for ensuring the functioning of the toilets and establishing a culture of cleanliness and good hygiene among students.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including HRH Chief Ambassador Ibrahim A. Sarki, Executive Chairman AMAC Hon. Christopher Zaka, Executives of the NYSC FCT Chapter, members of local government councils, and representatives of the Permanent Secretary for Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Overall, the article highlights the IHRC’s praise for Favour’s contribution to the education and community development of Waru Junior Secondary School Apo and emphasizes the importance of addressing global concerns for education and hygiene.
