A Nigerian by name, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Umenyiora, has published to his social media handle to celebrate after emerging the first Igbo Lecturer at the University of Oxford, UK, Hez reports.
As he celebrates his astonishing feat on Twitter, Emmanuel Ikechukwu wrote as quote:
”It is official that I am the first official Igbo Language lecturer at the number one university in the world, the University of Oxford.
To crown it all, Prof. Emmanuel did his university degree in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. This is the first of its kind and a big edge for the Igbo community.
Our induction happened today by Marion Sadoux, Head of Modern Language Programmes, University of Oxford Language Centre.”
A great record has been made and history created as it became possible in the account of the James Currey Society. This is the first time the Igbo language will be taught at the University of Oxford. I am so overwhelmed and grateful for this opportunity and elevation. I promise to make the Igbo language and culture known to the world.
